Barack Obama Coin

It’s a journey to the future of money, and the landscape is changing rapidly. The Mitsubishi Materials Corporation of Japan has developed a process, precious metals imaging, that begins with the extrusion of a very thin piece of precious metal. Then, through plastic lamination, a color photograph or design is melded to the surface to make a multicolored piece of metal carrying a design.
So far, the only use has been in coin cards, similar to baseball cards but showing different American coins and giving a short history of each. The company that designs and delivers the coins also plans cards honoring sports figures. All these cards are made of very small quantities of silver, gold or platinum. They seem to have most of the characteristics of coins: they can be melted down for their bullion value; their design guarantees their worth; with the addition of a bar code or magnetic strip, they could be recognized by vending machines. We have also heard all about what the election of Barack Obama means for America Barack Obama has offered a detailed plan to get America’s economy back on track, and No matter what your thoughts are on the results of the 2008 presidential election, you cannot deny the buzz around products featuring images of president-elect Barack Obama. Of course the coin world has some ideas of their own.  why not use this historic man to boost coin sales. The ads say that, “With .the first-ever official Barack Obama Presidential dollar coin issued to commemorate our new President’s historic victory and inauguration. These authentic dollar coins are legal tender and are layered in 24KT gold.”Although this sounds amazing buyer beware because These coins makes a great addition for anybody enthusiastic about the new president-elect or those interested in presidential history, but beware that the only aspect of this coin that is an official U.S. Mint product is the original silver eagle itself. The colorized portions were added by a private party.  Some even say that these coins are nothing more than $2 worth of US coins with Obama stickers applied.  From a coin finatic standpoint it is important to remember that  there is no constant size or weight for a gold coin; their varying weight and value is the way they are appraised, which varies according to the size of the gold coin. Of course, the unit of measuring for gold coins is the gram, but before that it was quantified as part of an ounce or troy ounces. The purest form of gold is measured as 999 parts of 1,000. Most gold coins are normally only 917 parts per 1,000, as they have been combined with other metal to make them easier to mint.  One must consider the profit of the Obama coins and not the hype of his picture being on them. Will this truly be an investment for the future or just ano2ther coin for the collection.
